Stockdog University has been a dream of mine for
many years, and it is now coming into fruition.
I began training dogs in 1999 with my first Aussie,
Jack, and discovered my passion. I realized that
there was something very fulfilling about giving a dog
a "job" to do. Jack seemed so grateful for finally
realizing his purpose, and I wanted to help every dog
owner achieve that.
I worked as a veterinary technician for several years,
and sometimes the rewards were few and far
between and the daily grind took it's toll. But I found
a new passion for working with dogs with training.
I joined the staff at Country Acre Animal Clinic in New
Castle, IN in 2002. There, Dr. Kent Wisecup
mentioned the idea of giving puppy kindergarten
classes after-hours. That idea grew into Country Acre
Academy, which consisted of puppy, basic, and
advanced obedience classes that were held at the
clinic. It gave me a great opportunity that I had not
had elsewhere.
In fall of 2005 we finally were able to buy our own
farm (Honey Creek Farms) so that we could develop
our own facility for training stockdogs with cattle,
sheep, and ducks.
In 2007, with the birth of my new baby, I chose to
stop working at the clinic and begin dog training at
home full time. Hopefully, this will allow me to not
only stay home to raise the girls, but also let me focus
on the farm more.
None of this would have ever been possible without
my parter in crime (and in life), my husband, Mark
Hiatt. Without his undying support, labor, and
priceless advice, this would not have been possible.
